Unit 3 focus of choice / criteria question

In the old spec the big question on choices and criteria focused on evaluating the usefulness of the criteria (and criticising the documents). We had some success with this last year. In the new specimen paper the question is worded to focus on the choice ('evaluate one such choice'), though the mark scheme that comes with it still seems to focus more on evaluating the criteria. Can anyone clarify just what is required by this new style question? Is it really much different to the old spec?

  2. Like you, my reading is that the assessment is going to be the same, marks being awarded for critical evaluation of the material in the source documents and for evaluating the usefulness of the criteria, as they relate to the choice.

The question changed from session to session in the old spec and I expect this to continue. I don't think we can expect the question to be exactly the same on every paper.

Have you received the 'notice to centres' from OCR regarding this? Dated July however I just got mine.

I will try and find the link to the appropriate place on the website

  5. Thank you for drawing this to my attention. Although the notice to centres was dated July, it appears that it has only just been sent out.

The big difference for question three is that there may longer be a requirement to refer to the documents.

The big difference for question 4 is that it will not necessarily require a resolution of a dilemma, although there will still be a requirement to argue about the issue.

I only received the notice just this week! What would help is a mark scheme for the new specimen questions - the material on the website seems not to have changed.
